Sam is now back in Hamble.
After competing in Antigua Sailing Week, we left Antigua on Thursday 7th May and sailed single-handed back to the UK, arriving back in Hamble on Wednesday 3rd June;
passage time was just under 27 days. See 'Stories and Reports' for more about this trip.
10 days after getting back we had our Fastnet Race Training weekend, which was fun and went very well. Sam of Hamble's Fastnet Crew is: me (Peter Hopps); Charlie Storr;
Stephan Meyen; Agne Rackauskaite; Debs Ley; Kerstin Exner; John Williams; Judith Tan; Kasmira Smarzo.
This was followed by our first qualifying race, the Morgan Cup Race to Guernsey. We started at 1900 on Fri 19 July and finished at 1618 the following day.
2nd Sigma 38; 6th in Class 4 (23 starters) and 36th overall (103 starters) was a good start to the campaign.
We won the Sailing School Prize in the Round the Island Race!
As a London Corinthian S.C entry we were eligible for the John Franks Trophy, which we won. A glorious sail round the Isle of Wight in near perfect conditions; even our start time of 0750 was a lot more civilised than usual. We finished at 1519; 6th Sigma out of 23; 9th Division 2D (43); 35th Group 2 (153) and joint 90th overall out of around 450.
A happy crew of me: Charlie Storr; Helen Storr; Guy Greer; Karen Beaty-Pownall; Paul Beaty-Pownall; John Colverson; Chris Sheasby and Dapo Ladimeji.
Over the next few weeks we will be doing some training events; the Cowes to St.Malo Race and the Channel Race as part of our Fastnet Campaign; the Taittinger Regatta and Cowes Week. Then the Rolex Fastnet Race starting on Sunday 16th August.
